Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of teaching tools making with smart phone on hair management skills of students with autism spectrum disorder. Three 7th grade male students attending special class at a middle school were selected as subjects of this study, and the experiment was conducted in the bathrooms and bedrooms of houses in which the subjects are actually living. Objective behaviors were hair management skills, and they were classified into two subordinate skills such as shampooing and hair styling. Also, teaching tools making with smart phone, the independent variable of this study, involves direct making of teaching tools needed to learn hair management skills by students using photograph and video functions available on smart phones. Teaching tools directly made by subjects using smart phones can be divided into three types, including task instrument board, video material and picture diary. The meaning of these tools was in allowing subjects to specifically recognize the places and tools for performing hair management skills, as well as to facilitate them in imitating others and themselves during each step of task analysis on hair management skills. In addition, the three procedures of intervention program were applied sequentially and collaboratively. As a result of this study, subjects were found to effectively learn and maintain hair management skills through making of teaching tools using smart phones. Lastly, functional properties and advantages of teaching tools making with smart phones shown in the study results, as well as the value of hair management skills in independent living of students with autism spectrum disorder, were comprehensively discussed.
